Description
Also called Japanese Redwood, Peacock Pine, or in Japanese Sugi, is a coniferous evergreen timber tree and only species of the genus Cryptomeria of the family Cupressaceae (sometimes classified in the so-called deciduous cypress family Taxodiaceae), native to Eastern Asia. Sugi is the national tree of Japan, commonly planted around temples and shrines, with many hugely impressive trees planted centuries ago. Often used for reforestation and for garden and avenue plantings. With high content of α-pinene (26%) and sabinene (21%), Sugi has a fresh, pine-like aroma with a light, warm terpene-like note.
